Ziwani Lodge in Northern Tanzania is located on the escarpment overlooking Lake Eyasi.
The architecturally novel ‘fort-styled’ lodge, offers sophisticated accommodation in 9 cottages, one of which is a family cottage. All the cottages have rooftop terraces overlooking
Lake Eyasi in the Rift Valley. It is a magical oasis.

Ziwani Lodge

Lake Eyasi, Tanzania

Ziwani Lodge is found in one of the oldest sections of the Eastern Rift Valley – a uniquely beautiful, wild and scenically-spectacular area, off-the-beaten-track in Northern Tanzania. Lake Eyasi, the 405 square mile lake that is situated at 3400 feet above sea level, is a particular highlight. The pace at Ziwani is more relaxed, its tranquil feeling making it the ideal place to relax between safaris and enjoy authentic visits with the Hadzabe Tribe.

For the area is home to the Hadzabe and Datoga people. The Hadza, as they are better known, are East Africa’s last remaining true hunter-gatherers. As one of Africa’s oldest tribes, they have lived sustainably on their land near the Rift Valley, the cradle of mankind, for over 50,000 years. The Datoga are a pastoralist tribe, who are also skilled silversmiths. They live near the Hadzabe and supply them with iron tips, knives and spears in exchange for animal skins, honey and fruits.

We invite you to experience an authentic, cultural encounter with these tribes, spending time with them and learning their various traditions and skills.

Ziwani Lodge is a family-owned property founded by and built by Finias Laizer and uniquely and lovingly decorated by his wife Anita. The lodge blend harmoniously with the environment with indoor/outdoor design so that guests feel at one with nature.

The highlight of the Lake Eyasi area is that it is activity-based, giving guests the chance to get out of the vehicle, visit the Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, enjoy birding around the lake and visit the local village to experience true African daily life. A large swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off after the cultural adventure and the star beds offer an intimate opportunity to watch the clear African skies at night.

Ziwani Lodge is the perfect place to combine with well-known northern Tanzania destinations such as Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks.
